Free. No account. No server.
Rotor is a two-factor authenticator. Your codes stay on your devices, and on Apple devices in your own iCloud, encrypted and in sync, without signing up for anything.
Not in the stores yet. Where it’s coming.
Sample accounts and codes
Free. Really free.
Not a free trial, not “free for one device”, not free with ads. Everything Rotor does is free, for everyone, on every platform.
- Free
The app
On iPhone, iPad, Mac, Windows and Android. No trial, no time limit.
- Free
Sync between your Apple devices
Through your own iCloud, automatically. No account to create.
- Free
The Rotor account
For Windows and Android sync. Free to create, free to keep.
- Free
Every feature
Search, import, encrypted backups, the recovery kit. Nothing is locked.
- Free
No ads
Not in the app, not on this site. Not now, not later.
- Free
No paid tier
No Pro, no Premium, no “upgrade” button. Ever.
Rotor is provided free by the people behind ServerPoint, ColossusCloud and A+ Hosting.
How sync works
No server, no account. Until you want one.
By default, Rotor uses no server of ours at all.
- 1
Your codes stay on your devices
Encrypted on each device, with keys that never leave it.
- 2
Apple devices sync through your iCloud
On iPhone, iPad and Mac, Rotor keeps an encrypted copy in your own iCloud. Your Apple devices stay in sync automatically, with no account.
- 3
Windows and Android, with the free account
Only if you choose to create the free Rotor account. Even then our server stores only encrypted data it can’t read: not your codes, and not which services you use.
- Your Apple devices and your own iCloud
- Windows and Android, through the free Rotor account
- Only if you create the account
Features
Everything an authenticator should do. Nothing it shouldn’t.
Shaped by 652 app-store reviews of another authenticator: what people love, and what lets them down.
Opens straight to your codes
No onboarding, no sign-up. The first screen is the way to add your first code.
Search that stays put
The search field sits at the bottom of the phone screen and never scrolls away. On a computer, press Ctrl K or ⌘K.
One tap to copy
Tap an account to copy the code you see. Rotor never copies the next code early.
Next code, clearly apart
See the upcoming code when you want it, labelled, and impossible to copy before its time.
Automatic Apple sync
iPhone, iPad and Mac stay in sync through your own iCloud, with no account.
Windows and Android too
Create the free Rotor account and your codes follow you everywhere.
Encrypted iCloud Keychain backup
Delete the app or lose your phone: sign in to the same Apple ID and your codes come back.
No tracking
No ads, no analytics, no trackers. Not in the app, not on this site.
Import from other apps
Google Authenticator, Aegis, 2FAS, Bitwarden, andOTP and OTPAuth, with a review before anything is added.
A recovery kit you keep
A printed or saved kit that brings your codes back if every device is lost.
Recently deleted
Deleted accounts wait 30 days, on every device, so a slip is never permanent.
Works offline
Codes are calculated on your device from the time. No connection needed.
Open standards
TOTP and HOTP (RFC 6238 and 4226), SHA-1, SHA-256 and SHA-512, 6 to 8 digits, any period.
Honest warnings
Rotor tells you when your clock is off, when backup is off, and what to do about it.
Made for everyone
Large text, screen readers, full keyboard control, light and dark, and reduced motion.
Quietly beautiful
Each service gets a calm color, and a small dial keeps time. Every icon is drawn for Rotor.

Why Rotor instead of Google or Microsoft Authenticator?
All three are free. Here is how they differ, from each company’s own help pages.
| Feature | RotorIn development, as designed | Google Authenticator | Microsoft Authenticator |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | Free, every feature | Free | Free |
| Use it without any account | Yes | Yes, “Use without an account”1 | Backup needs iCloud on iPhone, or a personal Microsoft account on Android2 |
| Sync between your devices | Automatic between Apple devices through your own iCloud; Windows and Android with the free Rotor account | Through your Google Account, when you’re signed in1 | No live sync: back up, then restore on a new phone2 |
| Move between iPhone and Android | Yes, with the free account or a backup file | Yes, through your Google Account, or by exporting QR codes1 | No: “accounts backed up using an iOS device cannot be restored on an Android device”2 |
| How synced codes are protected | End-to-end encrypted: the keys stay on your devices | Google says it “encrypts Authenticator codes both in transit and at rest”; it doesn’t describe the sync as end-to-end encrypted1 | Not described on Microsoft’s backup help page2 |
| Apps for Windows and Mac | Yes, alongside iPhone, iPad and Android | No: Android and iPhone1 | No: “not available for PC or Mac”3 |
| Take your codes elsewhere | Encrypted backup files you keep | Yes, “Export codes” as QR codes1 | Backups restore only into Microsoft Authenticator2 |

Import
Bring your codes with you.
Rotor shows a review of everything it found (ready, duplicates and invalid entries) before anything is added. Keep your old app until every code works in Rotor.
From Google Authenticator
In Google Authenticator, open Transfer codes, then Export codes. Scan the QR codes it shows with Rotor.
- Transfer codes
- ›
- Export codes
- ›
- Scan in Rotor
From Aegis, 2FAS, Bitwarden, andOTP or OTPAuth
Export a backup file in that app. In Rotor, choose Add, then Import from another app, and pick the file. Encrypted Aegis and andOTP files ask for that app’s password.
- Export in the old app
- ›
- Add
- ›
- Import
Review, then add
Rotor lists each account as ready, already in Rotor, or invalid, and changes nothing until you confirm.
Microsoft Authenticator and Authy
They don’t let you export your codes. Add each account again from the service’s own security settings: set up an authenticator app there and scan the new QR code with Rotor.
Security and privacy
Private by design, and honest about it.
- Encrypted on your device. With reviewed, widely used cryptography, and keys kept in your device’s secure storage.
- Your face, fingerprint or Windows Hello can be required to open Rotor.
- No tracking at all. No ads, no analytics, no trackers, in the app or on this site.
- Only what you choose leaves your devices, and only encrypted: your iCloud copy, and the free account if you create it.
Where Rotor is today
Rotor is being built. The apps aren’t in the stores yet, and nothing has been independently audited.
We’ll publish our threat model and an outside review before we call Rotor secure. Until then, read exactly what we will and won’t store in the privacy policy.

Questions
Questions, answered plainly.
Is Rotor really free?
Yes. The app, sync between your Apple devices, the Rotor account for Windows and Android, and every feature. No ads, no paid tier, no trial.
Do I need an account?
No. Rotor opens straight to your codes. On Apple devices, sync uses your own iCloud. You only create a Rotor account, which is free, if you want your codes on Windows or Android too.
Where are my codes kept?
On your devices, encrypted. On iPhone, iPad and Mac, also in your own iCloud, encrypted. If you create the free Rotor account, our server keeps an encrypted copy that it can’t read.
Can Rotor see my codes?
No. They’re encrypted on your device with keys we never have. That includes the free account’s copy: it doesn’t reveal your codes or which services you use.
What if I lose my phone?
On Apple devices, sign in with the same Apple ID and your codes come back. With the free account, approve your new device from another one. With no other device, use your recovery kit or an encrypted backup file.
Does Rotor work without internet?
Yes. Codes are calculated on your device from the current time, so they work anywhere.
When can I download it?
Rotor is in development. Store links will appear on this page when the apps are published.
Has Rotor been audited?
Not yet, and we won’t pretend otherwise. We’ll publish our threat model and an independent review before we call Rotor secure.
